How to Choose a Summer Camp Your Child Will Love
How to Choose a Summer Camp Your Child Will Love
Summer camp can be the best part of a kid's year. New friends, new skills, and a whole lot of fun. But with so many camps out there, how do you pick the right one? If you are looking around Absecon, Galloway, Egg Harbor Township, or the shore towns nearby, here is what to look for.
Start with safety
Fun comes second to safe. Ask about the basics first. How many counselors are there per child? Are staff trained in first aid? What are the drop-off and pickup steps? For a camp with swimming, ask about lifeguards and water safety. A good camp will have clear, confident answers.
Match the camp to your child
The best camp for your neighbor's kid might not be the best for yours. Think about what your child loves. A sporty kid, an artsy kid, and a science-loving kid will each thrive in different places. Some camps focus on one thing, and some mix a bit of everything. For most younger kids, a camp with variety, a little sports, arts, games, and free play, keeps every day exciting.
Look for a good mix of activities
Kids are happiest when the day has range. Look for a camp that blends active play, creative time, and a chance to cool off and rest. Swimming, crafts, science, sports, and themed weeks all keep boredom away and give your child lots of ways to shine. The mix is part of what makes camp special, the same way the arts add so much to the school year.
A warm, fun crew
The counselors make or break a camp. On a visit or a call, get a feel for the staff. Are they warm, energetic, and good with kids? A great counselor turns a good camp into a summer your child never forgets.
A comfortable setting
Check out where camp happens. Is it clean, safe, and set up for kids? Is there shade and a place to cool down on hot days? An air-conditioned indoor space is a big plus when the summer heat hits.
How Highland's summer camp works
Highland Academy's Summer's Cool Camp runs on the Stockton University campus for kids ages 3 to 13. Campers enjoy swimming, science, arts and crafts, sports, and themed weekly activities, all in a safe, fun, air-conditioned setting with a caring crew. It is learning through play at its best, and a great way to meet our community even before the school year. You do not have to be a Highland student to join.
